Movie Reviews - April 12, 2009

The Sniper (HK)

Not as good as Dante Lam's Beast Stalker, but considering the film's tortuous path to the screen, it would be wrong to expect that. The Sniper is satisfactory for a macho commercial actioner, and Huang Xiaoming delivers a striking performance as the villain. Don't see this if you're looking for story, character, or convincing emotional content. Most people anticipating this film probably aren't.

Happy Flight
(Japan)

Sometimes fun and entertaining, but also so tension-free that one may wonder what all the fuss is about. Happy Flight was officially sponsored by All Nippon Airways (ANA), so that probably explains why everyone who works for the airline is so damn cheerful. An agreeable but lesser work from Shinobu Yaguchi.

My Wife Got Married
(Korea)

My Wife Got Married is an enjoyable romantic comedy-drama about polygamy that would rather charm its audiences than explore its main theme. Nevertheless, its lead performances and brisk pace is more than enough to warrant a recommendation.
