LPGA -- eewwww!

LPGA has long been in decline because it doesn't have a Tiger Woods, a star that will the casual fan to tune in. Some have blamed the million Koreans that are now on tour making Americans not watch. I tend to agree with this. People tune out not because the players are Korean but because there is no dominant Korean. In the days of Se-Ri Pak she was the one dominant Korean and was very popular as she battled the like of Sorenstam and Webb week after week.

But now, one week it's In-Young Kim, another week it's Song-Hee Kim, another week Jee-Young Lee? Have I lost you? I don't blame you, I've forgotten their names already too.

So now the LPGA has hope! There's a new star from Taiwan who will beat these Koreans.
Yani Tseng has a big lead at the British Open which would mean her 2nd major title of the season. She is apparently Sorenstam's understudy and is looking to dominate. Finally a star to rise to the top. There's one problem though. She looks like a fucking dude! LPGA can't market that!

Not good, this might be the death of the LPGA is this dude keeps winning.

Michelle!! Where are you? Get your act together!

South Koreans named world texting champs

Source: Yahoo!

Two South Korean teenagers have been crowned fastest texters in the world.

The team of 17-year-old Bae Yeong Ho and 18-year-old Ha Mok Min went thumb-to-thumb against competitors from a dozen countries to win the title in a competition Thursday in New York City.

The LG Mobile World Cup challenged nimble-fingered youths on both speed and accuracy. The winning team took home a $100,000 prize.

Second place and $20,000 went to the U.S. contestants — 16-year-old Kate Moore of Des Moines, Iowa, who is the 2009 U.S. National Texting Champion, and 14-year-old Morgan Dynda of Pooler, Georgia, the 2009 runner-up. An Argentinian team came in third and the Brazilians took fourth.

With many languages at play, English was the texting language of the U.S. competitors and those from Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Other nations represented were Indonesia, Portugal, Russia, Mexico and Spain. Interpreters were hired for non-texting communication.

So why don't Koreans just use text to ask each other out! I think that would be work!

Music: Honey - Park Jin Young

While the Wonder Girls tour with the Jonas Brothers and all the Asian blogs are on it like a hawk with backstage footage and 'how to do the dance' footage, I'm reminded of a couple of things.

First is the Korean version of Nobody. Sounds much smoother then the new English version. Although the English version is still very good and I think it'll be a smach hit.

In that video I LOVED the song honey at the beginning. A mostly forgotten song that was reborn with the Nobody video.

What a wonderful upbeat song! I actually first heard this song in Cantonese by Jacky Cheung.

Ji Eun Hee wins Women's US Open

Source: ESPN

Eun-Hee Ji found surprising calm in a double-bogey and a dramatic victory with an improbable birdie.

The 23-year-old from South Korea made a lengthy birdie putt on the 72nd hole to emerge from a Sunday scramble with an even-par 71 and claim the U.S. Women's Open.

She outlasted playing partner and third-round leader Cristie Kerr, who struggled from the outset in the final round and failed in her bid for a second Women's Open title in three years.

"I didn't even dream about winning this tournament, but, well, I did it, and I think this is going to be one of the most memorable moments in my life," Ji said through an interpreter.

U.S. Women's Open Leaderboard

1. Ji (E)
2. Kung (+1)
T-3. Kim (+2)
T-3. Kerr (+2)
5. Lincicome (+3)

Ji recovered from two bogeys in her first four holes and a double-bogey at the 10th, making three birdies over the final six holes to finish at even-par 284 at Saucon Valley Country Club

I watched most of it. I had money on Kim In Kyung but she screwed up the last couple of holes. The NBC coverage was shamefully pro-American and pro-Kerr. Even when she was playing like crap they were cheerleading her on... oh she can do it. "She can win if she birdies the last two holes!" Sorry, if you're playing like shit and losing your temper on course, you're not going to birdie any holes let alone the last two in a US OPEN.

Asian Ripoff LXXII - Kiss Kiss

Artist: Mina
Language: Korean

Korean version of a song by Holly Valance in English taken from Tarkan in Turkish.
(This is starting to sound like explainations from the spelling bee)

I'm positive Mina took is from the English version cause the video is similar and had no clue it was originally Turkish. Bollywood style beat that sounds strange in Korean.

Rain says No Thanks to Megan Fox

Source: Yahoo!

Hollywood Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen actress Megan Fox recently openly expressed her interest in Korean star Rain and also a desire to date the latter, who replied plainly to her invite, "I'm not interested."

According to media reports, Fox has spoke numerously about her admiration for Rain while on the movie promotional tour.

And that was not just a comment made by Fox; she has indeed extended a dinner date to Rain through her manager but was rejected by the Korean star who was "not interested".

Yet, the rejection did not wound her pride and ironically, it has built up stronger interest of Rain in Fox who recently criticized the comparison of herself to Angelina Jolie.

According to reports, Fox loves such challenges and has no plans to give up. She would continue extending her invite to Rain, hoping that he would agree to meet up someday.

Sounds a bit fishy. I believe the part where Rain is not interested. But the part where Fox loves a challenge and won't give up? I think she's got other things to worry about right now.

But Megan Fox is so stupid to fall for a Rain quote. Asian male artists say this all the time. "Oh I think Song Hye Kyo is my ideal wife" or "I think Charlene Choi is so cute and my dream girl". Doesn't mean the girls go running to him cause they will look like fools. And it makes their fans jealous and want them more.

That's the subtle Asian way :)

Asian Ripoff XLVII - She's Gone

How famous is this song. I don't recall it growing up. I've asked some people I know and they don't know. But it's popular in Asia!

Artist: Terry Lin
Language: Mandarin

and in English

Terry Lin has an amazing voice. I love his ballads. But this song doesn't suit him as he goes waaay over the top.

And it's been done in English by about five different artists in Korea.

This one by Kim Sang Min is the one I like the best.

Chicago laundromat manager battered, bruised, but not beaten

korea
Source: Chicago Tribune

In a West Side laundromat, there's a man with little patience for loiterers—a frail 73-year-old veteran of the South Korean army who's stubborn enough to not be afraid.

When gangbangers and dope fiends wander in from Chicago Avenue, he yells at them in a mix of English and Korean, "Go out! Go out!"

If they listen, fine. If they don't, Ki Han picks up a phone in the back office and calls police.

On Monday night a man came into Spinning Bubble and confronted Han, accusing him of snitching. Han told the man to get out and then, said Han and the laundromat's owner, the man broke a whiskey bottle on a table and threatened Han with it.

Han said he went to the office and was just about to pick up the phone when the man attacked him. A police report stated Bennie Hale, 21, a convicted drug dealer, "punched Han in the face, causing bruising and abrasions, and leaving the man unable to see out of his left eye." Hale then destroyed computer equipment in the office and threw a microwave on top of Han, police and the laundromat's owner said.

I guess when you're 73 years old and have seen it all, nothing much scares you! Gotta love the sunglasses!

South Korean housewife breaks world marathon singing record

Source: news.com.au

A SOUTH Korean housewife has broken a world record in marathon singing after crooning for more than 76 hours without stopping at a Seoul karaoke bar, local record verifiers say.

Kim Sun-Ok, 54, broke the 75-hour Guinness World Record held by Marcus Lapratt of the United States, the private Korea Record Institute said.

She started singing at 11.14am local time on Thursday and sang a total of 1,283 tunes before she gave up at 3.21pm on Saturday following her family's appeal for her to quit for the sake of her health, it said.

Under Guinness World Record regulations, she was given 30-second breaks between songs and five-minute breaks every hour. She was also barred from singing any song she had already sung less than four hours earlier.

"My sister has had a very strong sense of determination since she was young. Once she sets her mind to anything, she finishes it," her brother, Kwang-Jin, told South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

The Korea Record Institute said it would submit video footage of Kim's feat to the Guinness authorities for official recognition as the new title holder in "longest singing marathon by an individual."

Wow. I wonder how her voice sounded after about 2 hours! 76 hours in insane! I can't even stay awake for more than 24 hours. Need beauty sleep!
