There are quite a few to start the new year.
Lady Cop and Papa Crook (HK)
Long-delayed comedy starring Sammi Cheng and Eason Chan is an odd and somewhat unfathomable mixed bag. A confusing plot, poor characters, and ill-fitting performances combine to make this one of the bigger recent disappointments out of Hong Kong. Clearly, this was a different - and probably better - film before the Mainland censors cut it to shreds.

Tactical Unit - Comrades in Arms (HK)
An entertaining if minor genre entry, Comrades in Arms proves be much better than its fellow PTU spinoff, the shot-on-video The Code. For a low budget Hong Kong movie, Comrades in Arms impresses, and director Law Wing-Cheong does his producer Johnnie To proud. A solid Milkyway Image film.

Ong Bak 2 (Thailand)
Story-wise, Ong Bak 2 is as routine as you can imagine, but the action more than compensates. As an action star, Tony Jaa is currently without peer, and Ong Bak 2 serves up enough surprise, impact and style to satiate any fan of martial arts cinema. The ending is a little disappointing, though.

Love Story (Singapore)
This Singaporean contribution to Andy Lau’s Focus First Cuts Film series is undeniably stylish and visually impressive. Too bad it’s a complete turkey.

Fist of Fury (HK)
It's a Bruce Lee movie - 'nuff said.
