The Philippines aren't really a sporting nation. Other than Manny Pacquiao, there's not much to cheer around in the international sports scene.
Ranked 151st in the FIFA Rankings and barely qualfying for the 8-team AFF Suzuki Cup SE Asian football tournament, they pulled off the shock of all shocks. Beating host and defending champions Vietnam in Hanoi!

Filipino inmates honour Michael Jackson's death
Source: UPI
Hundreds of inmates in a Philippines prison honored the late pop icon Michael Jackson the way they've always celebrated his music, officials said, by dancing.
During the past two years, the more than 1,000 prisoners of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center have routinely danced in unison to Jackson's "Thriller" album. The spectacle of the orange uniform-clad men's synchronized dancing not only attracted hundreds of curiosity-seekers to the prison but a video of it became an Internet sensation. The 4-minute video clip attracted 23 million views after being posted in 2007.
"He is like the God to them. It is Michael's music that gives them international recognition," Byron Garcia, a security consultant at the prison told Xinhua inside the sprawling jail.
After Jackson died Thursday, the prisoners decided to perform to four Jackson songs in a row as a final tribute.
The 1,581 inmates, serving sentences up to 10 years for murder, rape and drug crimes, Saturday danced to an audience of about 500 visitors and journalists, the Chinese news service reported.
"I am really sad, because Michael Jackson is my idol," said an inmate officials identified as one of the primary dance coaches. "Filipinos are so Westernized and that's why lots of us loved Michael."
Jackson performed in Manila in December 1996.
I'm always amazing how co-ordinated the dancing is. I remember watching the Thiller one and it was great! Here's the newest one.
Inmates singing "We are the World". I think I've seen everything now :)

Asia's dark pics make a splash at Cannes

Source: Yahoo!
Asia made a splash at Cannes with films from Korea, Hong Kong and the Philippines this weekend, almost all throwing dark violent blood-spattered visions of the world onto festival screens.
Hong Kong's Johnnie To offered "Vengeance", starring aging French rock idol Johnny Hallyday as a father out for blood after a family murder. A gangster movie shot like a western peppered with Triad shoot-outs, it is one of 20 films competing for the festival's coveted Palme d'Or.
From the Philippines, and also vying for the Palme, controversial love-him-or-hate-him director Brillante Mendoza's "Kinatay" (meaning "massacre") notably features corrupt cops hacking a prostitute to pieces with blunt kitchen knives.
Lone exception to the blood-and-gore on offer was "Mother" by Korea's young cult director Bong Joon-ho, although he is no stranger to violence in previous films such as "The Host" and "Memories of Murder"......more

Phillipines: House wants to ban pornographic cartoon

Source: House of Representatives
Hentai, the Japanese pornographic cartoon that depicts children in explicit sexual activity, is considered child pornography material and one may be severely penalized by just mere possession of it.
A bill banning this pornographic cartoon was approved recently by the Joint House Committees on Justice and Welfare of Children chaired by Rep. Matias Defensor (3rd District, Quezon City) and Rep. Monica Prieto-Teodoro (1st District, Tarlac), respectively.
Prieto-Teodoro, one of the authors of the measure, said the bill penalizes the offenders who sell, offer, advertise, and promote child pornography; and have been found to possess, download, purchase, reproduce, or make available child pornography materials with the intent of selling or distributing them.
Prieto-Teodoro said child pornography material refers to the means and methods in which a child carries out pornography.
"It can be in forms of visual depiction, audio representation and written text or materials that advocate explicit sexual activity with a child," Prieto-Teodoro said.
She explained that the said images of real and indistinguishable children in films, digital images or computer images, whether made or produced electronically or mechanically; drawings, cartoons, sculptures or paintings depicting children in an explicit sexual activity are just some of the visual depictions considered as child pornography materials.
Prieto-Teodoro said there is a need for a legislative measure to address this disturbing social phenomena considering that the provisions of RA7160 or the Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act are mainly related to child prostitution and do not provide adequate protection to victims of other forms of sexual exploitation particularly child pornography.
The bill provides that the mere possession of drawings, cartoons, digital images, computer-generated images -- even if it is indistinguishable from that of real children engaging in an explicit sexual activity – may be penalized with 6 to 12 years imprisonment and a fine of not more than P500,000.
The measure also imposes 12 to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of not more than P2 million to violators who have been found guilty of committing unlawful acts such as hiring, employing, using, persuading, inducing, or coercing a child to perform in the production of child pornography, including its production people.
Wow, I'm sure that will REALLY protect children from abuse! We all know that all these types of laws do is drive whatever is illegal into the underground market making it even harder to control. Unless you're a person who owns thousands of videos, nobody is going to bother you. Are the police going to look in everyone house? Like piracy laws, this never works.

Pacquiao wins! - Total Devastation

Source: AP
Going into the fight, the talk was how a smaller fighter would handle the power of a bigger fighter. When the first round started De La Hoya looked so much bigger than Manny that you'd think it would be a factor in the fight. That's as close as Oscar got as Manny starting to show his speed and power. He lost respect for Oscar's punches by round 4 and it was pretty much over. Oscar isn't such a pretty boy anymore and quit after 8.

Phillipino Playboy
I thought the Phillipines had playboy ages ago! Especially since the Americans are there.
But with a new playboy coming out with no frontal-nudity.. what's the point?
I don't object to nudity.. but I do object to a cut-rate job!
