Avatar: The Last Airbender

Here's the teaser trailer for The Last Airbender

Youtube Link

Looks really good! Just reading up on it, it looks like a multi-cultural cast. Aang is going to be played by a really talented kid named Noah Ringer who he’s phenomenal. So yeah the kid is white but Aang looks white in the anime anyways. I've only seen the odd episode here and there and I found the Avatar story is better than Dragonball so there's alot more of a story to work with.

Wow, I think you're the only Asian person that supports this movie.

The only multicultural main parts of this movie is the evil character played by Dev Patel (Slumbdog Millionaire)

I don't doubt Noah Ringer is talented but it feels like Asians can't even play Asians on screen anymore.

21: The Movie
Dragon Ball
Speed Racer
Kung Fu - The Legend Continues

"So yeah the kid is white but Aang looks white in the anime anyways."

Sorry Tracy, I read your blog daily but this is casting discrimination.

You don't have to apologize for disagreeing with me.

The movies/shows you mention are all terrible.

21? Asians have enough trouble with gambling problems, do you really want an Asian lead in a crap gambling movie?

Dragonball was garbage! I'm glad no Asian was the lead.

I don't know if having Asians in stereotypical Asian roles really helps even if it's a lead. (martial arts, racing, gambling, gangster)

I like more the roles that John Cho plays in White Castle :)

This movie looks really good and it would be nice if an Asian played the kid but it's not a big deal.

Aang's about as Asian as Sailor Moon.

So Asian Americans can't play in good movies, Asians can't play in movies about Asians, and Asian can't even play a themselves when it's based on a true story about an Asian... So when is an Asian allowed on screen?

When kids are watching the cartoon did they think Aang was White all this time? do you think the audience would be so offended to see an Asian playing an Asian about Asian cultures that they would not see this movie?

I wouldn't be surpised if Red Cliff would be remade with Jason Stathom as General Kwan.

The casting of Airbender movie is an epic fail.

The way anime is drawn, nobody is Asian. Perhaps the Japanese should have drawn their characters to look Asian instead of white with long legs, big eyes, blond hair and a huge rack. Then we wouldn't have this problem! :D

I'd get Megan Fox to play Sailor Mars. Would that be offensive?

Maybe I'm naive but I'd like to see roles not defined by someone being Asian or not.

For example the role of Ling Woo in Ally McBeal. The wasn't specifically Asian. Lucy Liu read for a variety of roles on the show.

Or the role of Dr. Chen on ER. She happens to be Asian but that's not important.

I knew Dragonball would be crap so I wasn't interested. I am looking forward to Avatar.. regardless of cast. I may be disapointed, we'll see.

Speaking of Red Cliff. There's two Japanese guys in it. That's an outrage!
