Movie Reviews - March 3, 2009

Source: LoveHKFilm

Two HK and two Chinese films in this review.

Love Connected (HK)

Patrick Kong is back with not just one, but five musings on love. Even with new tricks like happy endings and subtler storytelling, Love Connected is an overstuffed package of old themes and situations that Kong has used over the years. But the more he puts in his film, the less he has to say. Could this be the end of Patrick Kong?

Give Love (HK)

Gigi Leung and Wilson Chen star in this average romantic dramedy that's dragged below average by lousy direction. A hit in China, for what it's worth.

The Underdog Knight (China)

Liu Ye takes the law into his own hands in Underdog Knight, a Mainland co-production from producer Wong Jing and director Ding Sheng. As a thriller or a drama, the film never truly takes off, but the mixture proves oddly entertaining, in large part due to Liu Ye's intense performance.

Orz Boyz (China)

Despite an episodic structure resulting in erratic pacing and a lack of dramatic drive, Orz Boyz has endearing characters and enough imagination to make it a worthwhile sit.
