Lorry driver builds himself a Lamborghini

Source: Orange

A Chinese lorry driver has built himself a Lamborghini supercar in his spare time - for just £2,000.

It took Chen Jinmiao, 25, of Binzhou, Hunan province, a year to build the replica sportscar, reports the Red Net.

"I downloaded the drawings from the internet, and then bought materials from the market," he said.

Chen, who has only a basic school education, had always dreamt of owning a Lamborghini but knew he would never be able to afford a real one.

It is a fully working car - and even has the famous wing doors - but its top speed is a little over 50mph, compared to a real Lamborghini's 200mph-plus.

Chen said his family and friends tried to discourage him from building the car.

"But they couldn't stop me, as I did it all with my own savings," he explained.

He is now waiting to see whether traffic officials will give him permission to drive the car on the road.

"If they don't, I can have it for my collection at home," he added.

Holy crap, £2,000 is alot of money that he's been saving up. A whole year!
That's a really cool project but there's not way he can really drive that thing very far. Just around the neighbourhood? It looks great but doesn't look safe, no bumper, bad wheels. Can it even break at high speeds? I like his attitude though, that's a wonderful lifetime collection to have :)

My Dad Vs. GPS

Last week my uncle gave my mom a GPS. She decided to install it into the family car, the one my dad drives most of the time. My dad is in his 60s and pretty set in his ways. He's knows Calgary inside out and any new neighbourhoods that he doesn't know he just looks it up on google maps. If he's in another city, he just buys a map.

So we install the GPS and immediately an argument ensues. First he's trying to get from University to around 1600 Acadia Drive. GPS suggests Deerfoot Trail.

Dad: "This machine is insane! Either take Crowchild to 14th Street South to Anderson. Who the hell would take Deerfoot?" My dad doesn't like taking Deerfoot unless he has to.

Another time he was driving somewhere:

"Turn right in 3 intersections"

"Bullshit, only an idiot would go that way"

It's turning into quite a contest. Odds are 3-to-1 that the GPS will be thrown out the window by the end of the month.

What do you think of GPS?

Crazy Japanese Minivan Designs

Source: World Famous Design Junkies

A tribute to the little vans and trucks most commonly found in Japan. Suited to their small, tight streets and spaces, these automobiles have a rich history and continue on in service today.

WOW! That looks pretty cool! Not sure I'd ride in such a car cause it does look a bit silly. But one has to admire Japanese creativity.

So tiny. But there's enough room in the back for a little romp :)

CARS: Japanese Itasha Trend

Source: The Wonderous

Japanese always try to have new, unique and wonderful trends. Itasha is a trend to decorate car bodies with fictional characters of anime, manga, or video games. These characters are predominately “cute” female. The decorations usually involve paint schemes and stickers. Automobiles are called Itasha, while similar motorcycles and bicycles are called itansha and itachari respectively. Check out here what they have done with their vehicles.

WOW! That looks really pretty. Not sure I'd ride in such a car but one had to admire all the artwork. Anime fans really are one of the most loyal fanbases around!

Police urge hybrid car drivers to turn lights on

Source: Daily Yomiuri

The police in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture will launch a campaign to encourage drivers of hybrid cars to turn on their lights during the day to prevent accidents caused by the quiet engines of such cars, among other reasons.

Starting this month, Koriyama Police Station's patrol cars have been driving with their lights turned on during the daytime. The police were set Wednesday to attend a citizens event aimed at eradicating accidents and call on hybrid car owners to drive with their lights on.

Sales of hybrid cars are rising due to a tax reduction for eco-friendly vehicles. However, it has been pointed out the silent engines used in the hybrid cars--a combination of an electric motor and a gasoline engine--could pose a danger to visually disabled and elderly people who are less likely to notice the approach of a quiet hybrid car.

The Construction and Transport Ministry on July 2 held a committee meeting to discuss accident prevention measures. At the meeting, there were more than 60 reports on potentially dangerous minor accidents.

Toyota Motor Corp., which manufactures the Prius hybrid car, is studying ways of alerting pedestrians about the approach of quiet cars, including through the use of warning beeps.

"Car visibility will be enhanced if vehicle lights are turned on during the daytime," an officer of Koriyama Police Station said. "As the car engines are quiet, this step also will be useful for other cars."

So all the meetings and planning that went into inventing a car, nobody thought about a car bring loud? A car needs to sound like a car so people know it's a car!

Imagine walking on the sidewalk and not being able to hear a car approach you! I'd be scared out of my wits every 2 seconds.

Idiots!

Want a Rolls Royce for £30,000?

Psssssst (whisper) it's not real!

Geely GE! I get the Rolls Royce logo too!

Source: Daily Telegraph

The Geely GE was launched at the Shangai Motor show this week where it was immediately branded a "Phantom knock-off".

The 5.4 metre prototype, painted black and given pride of place on a raised plinth in the middle of Geely's stand is undeniably based on the shape of the Rolls in the shape of its cabin, windows and down-sloping rear deck.

Although Geely claims to be 're-inventing the classic' Rolls-Royce bosses considering their options and have consulted lawyers and say the company is keeping its options open.

"Our colleagues in Shanghai are taking a serious look at it," a spokesman told the Daily Mail. "Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is very protective of its brand image and takes seriously any attempt to imitate its products.

"Rolls-Royce is currently keeping its options open and is in consultation with its legal advisers."

The grille, the Flying Lady mascot, also known as the Spirit of Ecstasy, and the Rolls-Royce name and initials are specifically protected.

.....more

Nice. Make a car and use every part of a Rolls Royce and then not call it one. Hope they get their pants sued off.

Is it a Car Show or a Pretty Girl Show?

car show

Source: chinaSMACK

Some pictures of the current 2009 Shanghai International Auto Show. Big shows and expos in China usually have many pretty models. If there are pretty models, then the media and many men will be there to take many pictures. If there are many pictures, they will be on the internet on many BBS forums. If they are on many BBS forums, there will be many men talking about them. This happens every year.

Hotel offers ladies-only parking lots

Source: Asiaone

See that colour? See that icon?

It's for you, ladies.

If you drive to the Furama RiverFront Hotel on Havelock Road, you can park in these pink lots.Seven lots on the ground floor of the hotel's carpark are reserved for women drivers. What's the idea, though? Are women such lousy drivers they need special lots to park their cars?

Not at all, said Mr Vincent Kerk, 44, the hotel's general manager.
'It's a fallacy that women are bad drivers,' he said.

Nah. Women really are bad drivers.

'Women deserve to be pampered, and this is our hotel's way of taking care of our female guests.'

He came up with the idea after the opening of the hotel's in-house spa last November.

The hotel had received feedback from several of the spa's clients, mostly women, about the lack of parking space during their visits and decided on a creative approach to solve the issue.

The hotel's carpark has seven decks and 278 lots in all, with two reserved for handicapped drivers.

Said Mr Kerk: 'At first we reserved three lots for the spa's clients, but decided to dedicate more lots for female guests of the hotel for their convenience.'

Mr Kerk pointed out that safety was also a consideration as the ladies-only lots are located on the ground floor.

'Female guests need only walk less than 15 metres to get into the hotel lobby, and it's easier for those in high heels,' he said.

Also, female guests who come with their young children in prams have an easier time getting to the lobby.

Make sense. Strollers aren't good in parking lots and women at night should be able to get to their cars faster. Although in a hotel of this caliber, security should be around every night.

One male driver we spoke to was not keen on the idea.
'I think it's discrimination,' said Mr Andrew Keitley, 36, a director of logistics.
'It's a silly idea.'

Oh be a man, you can walk a little!

Miss Marilyn Teo, 29, a sales manager, also felt there was no need to have lots reserved for women.
'We can just park in normal lots. We are not handicapped,' she said.
'I would feel a little odd parking in a bright pink lot.'
However, she admitted she would still park in such a lot if it was convenient.

Typical feminist bitch. Always insulted that the things done for women devalue women but would take definitely take advantage of it.

Me? I would like this. I like being spoiled and having things easier for me. I suck at driving and parking so this would be great! As long as my dumb mayor doesn't put a charge on it!

2009 Tokyo Motor Show DOA?

Source: The Truth About Cars

Automotive News [sub] reports that the Tokyo Auto Show could be canceled this year. Debate is raging within the Japan Automobile Manufacturing Association (JAMA) which hosts the show, as foreign automakers stay away and even domestics brands call for a cancelation. But JAMA won’t reveal the confirmed no-shows, and insists that the things must go on in the business of show. “A couple companies are not in favor of organizing the show under these conditions, but that is not JAMA’s opinion,” says Toshihiro Iwatake, JAMA’s executive director and secretary general. “We think the motor show is a symbol of industrial prosperity,” he said. “We have to show that our industry is healthy.” And though Japan’s automakers are as healthy as can be expected, Japan’s cratering domestic market (set to fall under 5m units in 2009) makes America’s down year look like China’s down year. If the Tokyo show is canceled, it won’t be back until 2011. By which time, Japan could be well on its way to becoming a “kuruma banare,” or demotorized society.

You know things are bad when Japan is contemplating cancelling it's main car show!
And a demotorized society? That's a bit of a stretch! We'll always need cars.
