Obama, Japan

There's a town in Japan called Obama.

Guess who they're cheering for? :)

Lol, a town in Japan that has the same name than the current American president! It would be quite interesting to know the year the town in question was founded, but given the amount of History researches I have to finish, I'll just sit down and not think about it.

It's too funny. Knowing small city Japanese life, the last thing they would ever do is feel comfortable around our new president. The most racist country on earth would cheer from a distance, but clear the hell out of a communal bath if he so much as dipped his pinkie toe in the water.

To answer your question, Anh, the town has quite a long history, as one would expect from a coastal city in Honshu. You can read the city fathers' English website here.

Well it looks like the city of Obama is going to become a superstar now! They even sell tees and apparel of signs with its name in Japanese:
